County Fair opens tonight in the West Gallery at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation (TAF). This will be the 5th time we are showing this installation. There have been so many changes over the years I thought it would be fun to take a little walk down memory lane ...
We first showed County Fair at the De Ricci Gallery at Edgewood College in the fall of 2010. We were still living in Portland at that time and had full access to kiln facilities, so much of the show was made up of clay and metal pieces. Here's a link to the video we made after we set up the show.
Sometime during the winter, we made cartoons and short videos of the individual pieces. In the summer of 2011, in preparation of taking the show to Curly Tale Gallery in Chicago, Zach changed up the show a little by building a pop-up cart for the pieces. The "cart" has wheels on them so we could easily take it to places by simply folding it shut and wheeling it in and out of the van. This added a whole new street art dimension to County Fair that we both love. Here's a link to the funny promo video we did for the show.
In 2012, we showed County Fair at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College in KY. Then in the summer, we took the show to Artlink in Fort Wayne, IN. At Fort Wayne, we showed County Fair alongside a couple of new interactive paintings that doubled up as fair games. We also debuted the short videos we made back in 2011.
This year's show at TAF is looking the biggest and grandest County Fair's ever been. Zach added some new games, new rides, and a whole new gift shop section. We also filled the gallery space with assemblage paintings, and there is a new video of a fair lady working the ticket booth. If you've never had the chance to see the show, this will be a good time to catch it. County Fair will be up through September 13, so stop in TAF anytime before then.
