Recipe of the Week: Slow Cooker Red Beans and Rice


What's better than red beans and rice? Slow cooker red beans and rice! You throw all the ingredients in the crock pot and your steaming hot meal is ready in a couple of hours ...


I combined two recipes from myrecipes.com and ended up with this list of ingredients:

1lb dried red beans 
3/4lb smoked turkey sausage, thinly sliced
1 red pepper, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 sweet onion, chopped
3 celery ribs, chopped
garlic, minced
1 tbsp Creole seasoning
2 bay leaves
1 tsp dried thyme
hot sauce (optional)

Combine all the ingredients with 6 cups of water and cook on high for 6-7 hours. 
Serve over rice.
