team work

We've been busy. It's only eleven days into the new year and we're already finding ourselves a little drained. The reason? We've been working on finishing up the pieces for Zach's first solo exhibit of the year "County Fair," that he'll be installing in Elizabethtown, KY this Friday, the 13th.

Okay. To be fair, all I've had to do so far is help him sew some stuffed animals that are going in the box of fair prizes. But we are sewing novices who grossly underestimated how challenging this project turned out to be ...

Zach has been re-working several of the old fair pieces since early December. He's also revamped a lot of the display and made a couple of new additions to the entire installation. And, like a real county fair, this show will travel from Elizabethtown to Fort Wayne where it'll be on show at Artlink this summer (more details to follow).

In the meantime, here are some pictures to share ...

  1. I like the stuffed animals--they look great! (But I'm with you on the difficulties of sewing.) A question: Did you lino-block print the cloth animals? Been having less-than-success with my recent attempts and wondering what kind of ink you used.

  2. i did block print the images and i actually use heat-set silk screen ink with the linoblocks...it's a bit difficult to get the ink as thick as you need it to be, but just working the it with the brayer a bit can get you a good thick layer. if you're using it on tshirts, i recommend using a high thread-count organic cotton and also wash it before you print it. my blocks are also cut quite deep and none have super-fine details. thanks for reading, i hope this helps!

  3. That's a great help--much appreciated! Am working on stuffed creatures and learning--I think--to sew them as well. Looking forward to trying out the silk screen ink.

Congrats and good wishes on the solo show. Thanks again!
