Painted Closet Doors for the Baby's Room

zmedstudios

For the baby's room in the new house, we decided to skip the traditional nursery look and make her room a visual playground instead. Closet doors are usually plain and boring, but Zach had this vision that it would make a perfect canvas for a large room mural. So we brainstormed the different "objects" we want in it, and then he took the doors off and finished the project in an afternoon.

The doors are filled with bright colors, contrasts, patterns, and a lot of little things that will hopefully make her mind play. We also added the cat in the lower right corner, and put a ladybug and a bee for the door handles.

We hope she'll love it. She seems to for now. And if not, we can always take the doors down and paint on a new collage!

Cherry Picking

I kept typing "cheery" instead of "cherry" when I was titling this post, which I suppose, isn't really wrong considering how much fun we had!

We drove a 100 miles to go visit the grandparents yesterday. When we got there, we got roped into helping to harvest the sweet cherries, which we happily participated in because ... one cherry in the bucket, one cherry in the belly. We had to make sure those cherries are good, you know! ;)

According to Zach's mom, this is the best her cherry tree has ever been. We have no reason to doubt her. We ate our weight in cherries that day!

{harvest} Mulberries

A quick internet research on mulberries reveal that they are one of the best fruits to eat. Mulberries contain resveratrol, the same ingredient that makes red wine so healthy. They, as you can imagine, are also high in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber, all the things that are so very good for you. Mulberries can help you improve your sight, digestive system, cholesterol, blood sugar levels, immune system, and even prevent cancer! So since we have a giant mulberry tree at our new house, I've been fighting off the birds and the squirrels to harvest these tasty little morsels all week. If you have a mulberry tree nearby, harvest away! You can turn the mulberries that you don't eat into jam, or dehydrate them to snack on later. There are really only two things to note: 1) The darker the skin, the sweeter the berry; 2) Zach and I ate a couple of handfuls before we noticed the microscopic bugs that crawl all over the mulberries. Soaking then rinsing the mulberries in some salt water will take care of the critters, so nothing to worry about!

Abstracting from Nature

Zach finally finished the giant linoblock he's been carving for his next chapbook. The images, all abstracted from photos taken on walks with the baby, are something new he is trying out ...

How do you like them? This one (above) of the moon is my favorite.

furry friends

We went to our friends Margy and Jerry's house for dinner last night. And even though the food and company were fantastic, I was most thrilled to pet and snuggle up with all their puppies and kitties. That's me, sandwiched between Bailey and Andy. I'm a lucky gal. :)

{harvest} sweet peas

We grew peas to make baby food.

Yes, we are cruel parents. Hahahahaha!

On a serious note though, can you believe the baby is turning 6 months old in just a couple of days? Zach is so excited to feed her "solids" and to cook her some gourmet baby food!
