Zach and I hand make every single one of his name cards. We feel they are more personal that way, and they are more apt to reflect the style and aesthetic of the brand and look we are going after. The downside to this handmade approach is the time it takes to make cards. Ordering pre-made cards online takes no time at all in comparison. But the work does go faster when we tag team and assembly-line the process. We can usually churn out 100 cards in an episode of
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It also helps that we buy card stock that are already appropriately sized, and we use a standard text stamp for the information on the back of our cards.
Zach designs and carves all the images we stamp. We used to only have two stamps for all the cards we make.
But then he started painting a lot more,
and printing,
and working in assemblages,
and then we started this blog,
and we decided that all of those things needed their own block.
If you'd like to try your hand at making some name cards, our
cards are from
Paper Source, and our text stamp, from
Staples.
And be sure to use
Color Box Chalk ink to stamp with. They are slightly more expensive, but they are the easiest to work with -- no bleeding, no smearing, and fast drying. And oh, they are acid free and of archival quality too!
Have fun!
Love these! Make me want to buy more carving blocks and give it another go! I made a couple of stamps with my son once as a weekend project but haven't revisited it since.
ReplyDeleteGreat designs! I like the 'raw' feeling of stamps like these. And the lettered stamp with your studios contact details on it, is pretty awesome in all its simplicity!
